The Reason Why Uhuru Kenyatta Sends Fred Matiang’i Home

Date:

President Uhuru has sent Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i together with other Cabinet members on a 14-day working leave starting August 17.

This comes amid speculations about a looming reshuffle.

The entire cabinet including cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, chief administrative secretaries as well as the Attorney-General will only attend to national emergencies during this period.

The directive was given by the Head of  Public Service Joseph Kinyua saying the next Cabinet meeting will happen on September 3.

Sources say the President will take this time to make changes in the Cabinet in a race against time to implement his Big Four Agenda.

President Uhuru is currently focusing on the agenda that covers universal health coverage, affordable housing, food security, and manufacturing even as he near his retirement come 2022.

The President is also said to be working on a reorganized government that will be more “inclusive” and include his newly fond allies.

In a reshuffle that happened back in January, President Uhuru ditched Mwangi Kiunjuri as Agriculture CS and replaced him with former Meru Governor Peter Munya.

He President also dropped Henry Rotich as the National Treasury boss and confirmed acting Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani.

In the reshuffle, Uhuru moved CSs Rachel Omamo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sicily Kariuki to the Ministry of Water, and Monica Juma to defense.

The president added Muatahi Kagwe and Betty Maina as CS for Health and Industrialisation ministers, respectively.
