This Why Governor Sonko Appeared Before the Senate Without Crucial Documents

Date:

The Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC) was forced to adjourn questioning Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko over issues to do with audit after the government said he could have access to his office and retrieve some crucial documents.

The Governor said argued that he was barred from accessing his office following a graft case.

The Governor told the committee since he was unable to access the office or interact with staff, he could not table any response to the audit queries for 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 financial years.

“I was charged in court and barred from accessing office or interacting with staff. This ruling has affected my work,” said Sonko.

Governor Sonko told the committee that although he had successfully petitioned the High Court for the judges who presided over the appeal cases of Samburu and Kiambu county governments, Justice Mumbi Ngugi and Ngeye Macharia has since recused themselves from his case and are now waiting for Chief Justice David Maraga to create a new bench.

The Governor added that although he was barred from interacting with his staff, no witness or evidence statement has been adduced in the court for him to know those staff he should not interact with.
