Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga dismissed claims that Azimio la Umoja failed to highlight the issue of the high cost of living during talks with President William Ruto’s team.
Raila maintained that Azimio members who sat in the dialogue committee raised the issue about it was shelved by the ruling regime.
“During the talks, our delegation made it very clear that they were not happy with what Kenya Kwanza was doing in refusing to reduce taxes on commodities like fuel and VAT on a number of food items.”
He however said that the Coalition will continue to push the government to lower the cost of living adding that the people of Kenya are suffering because of the hiked cost of commodities.
“We will continue to keep them in check and we will not tire in telling them that Kenyans are suffering and that the donkey is no longer tired but has fallen,” said Odinga.
Raila made the sentiments on Friday, December 15 in Awendo. However, he insisted that it was not the opposition’s responsibility to lower the cost of living.
“The cost of living is not the responsibility of the Opposition; it is the responsibility of the government in power. We have the responsibility of keeping them in check and to tell them Kenyans demand the cost of living to be lowered,” he said.
