2 Cops Sentenced for Opening Fire at EACC Officers

Two police officers attached at a station in Kabete were sentenced for opening fire at officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in a bid to evade arrest.

The two were accused of scheming to defraud a Japanese national of Ksh1 million.

According to EACC statement the officers demanded the money claiming that the Japanese national was in the country illegally.

“Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki found Cpl. Julius Onyango Oguma and PC Charles Macharia Wanjiru guilty of receiving a bribe, concealing evidence, and obstructing EACC officers on lawful duty, ” EACC statement read in part.

” The Court sentenced Corporal Julius Onyango Oguma to pay a fine of Ksh1,900, 000 or in default serve 5 years in jail while PC Charles Macharia Wanjiru was fined Ksh 400, 000  or serve 1 year in prison, ” it added.
