KDF Full Statement on Military Chopper Crash

Kenya Air Force helicopter crashed in Lamu County on Monday, night September 18.

According to the statement by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Huey Helicopter crashed during a night patrol in the area.

An unidentified number of soldiers who were in the chopper died following the crash.

Following the tragic ordeal, KDF launched an investigation into the cause of the chopper crash.

Here is the Full statement: 

“A Kenya Air Force Huey Helicopter crashed last night while on night patrol in Lamu County.
The crew and other military personnel onboard were part of an air surveillance squadron intensifying day and night patrols and surveillance for the on-going Operation Amani Boni.

The leadership and entire KDF fraternity condoles with the families of the crew.

A Board of Inquiry has been constituted and died to the scene to establish the cause of the crash.”

The operation in Lamu was mounted following cases of attacks in the area by extremist groups targeting locals and law enforcement officers.

Before the operation, the KDF car had stepped on an improvised LED devise, injuring several officers.

To avert other attacks, On September 13, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki officially opened the Lamu East Sub-County Headquarters.

“The Government has no problem with any community or religion as it confronts the challenge of terrorism and violent extremism. No community or religion will be profiled in the fight against crime,” he stated.

“Our security officers have successfully thwarted many planned terror attacks, and the Government commends them for their diligence, commitment, and patriotism,” he added.
