New Twist As Pakistan Reveals The Motive Behind  Arshad Sharif’s Visit To Kenya After Fleeing His Country

Date:

Fresh details surrounding the presence of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif in the country before his unfortunate death have emerged.

Reports had earlier indicated that Arshad had fled his country to escape arrest after a controversial interview he did in August. The interview saw him get fired from a media channel he was working for for the past 8 years.

According to the Pakistan High Commissioner to Kenya Saqlain Syedah, Arshad was not hiding from his country’s authority.

“Mr. Arshad Sharif was on a holiday on a visitor’s visa. If he was on the run he would have not gotten the visa. There are procedures in obtaining a visa, but as a journalist, he was still doing his blogs and everything, but not on the run,” she told reporters at the Chiromo mortuary where an autopsy was conducted on the deceased’s body.

The autopsy revealed that Arshad was hit by a bullet between his shoulder and the neck. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Magadi, Kajiado County where police had erected a road barrier using stones.

“We have already done the post-mortem, which shows that he was shot between his shoulder and his head. It was a mishap that happened by the Kenyan police between Kajiado and Nairobi, which they have ruled a case of mistaken identity and that they were looking for a stolen car. They said they did not see the registration number clearly,”  Sayedh further said.
