Gachagua’s Wife Emphasizes On The Importance Of Planting Trees

Date:

The Second Lady of the Republic of Kenya Dorcas Gachagua has laid emphasis on what was earlier on said by the president, his excellency William Ruto concerning planting trees.

Speaking in Laikipia East in Laikipia County while giving relief food to the people living in the area, the wife to the DP emphasised that we also have a hand in the changing climatic patterns. She urged the residents to participate in tree planting to curb drought.

The Second Lady said that famine is not only experienced in the North Eastern as it was earlier believed but the people in the Mount Kenya region also experience it.

“Tukiongea mambo ya njaa, hakuna mtu ambaye unaweza kusema hawezi kupata njaa. Miaka iliyopita watu wanafikiria njaa inaweza tu kupata watu wa North Eastern lakini sasa hata Mt. Kenya, ukienda Rift Valley ukiuliza katika ile data imepatianwa kila mtu ako na shida. Na ile shida imekuja ni kwa sababu hata sisi tuko na jukumu la kupanda miti na kuchange hii climater change…” Mrs Gachagua.

A few weeks a go while commissioning Thiba Dam in Kirinyaga County, the president urged Kenyans to plant trees, arguing that it is the main solution to curbing drought in the country.

“Every Kenyan, 50 million of us, must plant at least 100 trees, either in your compound, on your farm or in any other place you find…that is the surest way for us to turn around the climate so that we can have water, grow crops, do dams like the one we have here, we can expand our agriculture, agro-processing, value addition, grow our economy, eliminate hunger, grow jobs and make sure we have prosperity that is shared by the 50 million of us.” said the head of state.

Being a pastor, the DP’s wife gave hope to Kenyans saying that God will bring rain to help in curbing the drought situation faced in various parts of the country.

“Mimi kama mchungaji, najua kuna Mungu ambaye atatuonekania na mvua itanyea.” she said.

Several cases of hunger have been reported in various countries and most of the families are suffering. What will happen in case it does not rain in the next few weeks? Will the relief food that is being provided sustain the affected areas for that long?
