Murega Baichu Aside, Here Is Why Meru MCAs Are Giving Governor Kawira Mwangaza Sleepless Nights

Date:

Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has addressed the public following her row with MCAs and a warning that was sent to her and her Homa bay counterpart Gladys Wanga by EACC.

In the press briefing, Mwangaza lifted the lid on what could have led to the misunderstandings between her and the MCAs even though the issues of appointing her husband Murega Baichu, and her family members to county roles are still glaring at her.

According to her, the issue of the Ward fund is the main reason why MCAs are troubling her such that they have been ignoring events she has been presiding over while protesting against her. The first instance of the protests was witnessed before she opened the assembly last week.

“Immediately after they sang ‘mapambano’ we met the MCAs severally. I have sacrificed to meet them at different places even at my private home for us to address the issues. After addressing all the issues, I sat down to draft a way forward and in my speech, I included how we shall handle the issue of Ward fund. The speech is still at the county Assembly. Unfortunately, they did not wait, they barred me from entering the assembly but I forcefully entered or by God’s grace. Immediately after I began my speech, they left singing ‘Mapambano’,” she said adding that they began acting like chameleons.

At that point, Mwangaza says, the MCAs began accusing her of ignoring them saying that she is not ready to work with them.

“When their accusations that I was not talking, meeting, or working with them failed, they turned the discussion to Ward fund. I asked them the other day at a burial about which previous governments(That of Kiraitu Murungi and Peter Munya) issued ward funds within a month,” the governor said.

“Secondly, they should have listened to the speech to determine whether there was Ward Fund or not,” she added.

Mwangaza however said that the MCAs were not genuine with the complaints on the ward fund but they only want to blame her over non-issues.

“They went ahead to write letters so that I can be kept busy in the media. They discuss something different from what they have been asking to divert Kenyans’ attention. That was the agenda,” she said.

The first-time governor said that she will not be intimidated while urging leaders to be satisfied with their salaries. She added that her doors were open for negotiation with MCAs.

“I’m not ready to pocket a single shilling belonging to Kenyans, I will not be intimidated to become a thief,” she said.
