Last Minute Events That Forced Ruto To Reject Mike Sonko Despite Promising Him A Cabinet Slot

Date:

Former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was amongst the biggest losers in the recently released cabinet by president William Samoei Ruto.

Mike Sonko who ditched Azimio for Kenya Kwanza a few weeks to the general elections tweeted that the deputy president then had promised him some appointive positions if he won ranging from four ambassador posts, three PSs, one cabinet slot, CECs in both Nairobi and Mombasa counties amongst other goodies. This is what Sonko tweeted:

“Below are positions offered to me and my people as captured in the engagement agreement/MoU: one CS, national government; three PSs, national government; four ambassadors; three CECs, Mombasa County; three chief officers, Mombasa County; two CECs, Nairobi County; and three chief officers in Mombasa County. With your blessings, I would want to get into this agreement with UDA so that I can be assured of jobs and opportunities for my Mombasa and Nairobi people.”

Consequently, Kenyans were more than convinced that Mike Sonko would make it to the cabinet if the agreement he posted was anything to go by after he crossed over to the Kenya Kwanza side.

However, Mike Sonko conspicuously missed out from the list that was read out by president Ruto at Statehouse, leaving many people wondering why the head of state did not reward him.

Well, it has now emerged that Sonko was not appointed to the cabinet due to a number of factors. To begin with, the handlers around the president stood in his way because they argued that the former Nairobi governor crossed over to Kenya Kwanza late a few days to the general elections and that he did not contribute much towards the success of the already politically established Hustler.

Besides, Sonko came late and was given better deals even more than those who had supported Ruto for the longest time possible. As a result, there are those within Ruto’s circles who felt that he was going to reap where he did not sow, terming the positions promised as “simply unattainable.” Consequently, Sonkonews has learnt that these faces did not have kind words for former Nairobi governor behind the scenes.

In the meantime, Kenyans await to see if Mr. Mbuvi will be considered for other future appointments whether ambassadorial, CAS or even PSs.
