Queen Elizabeth II will be remembered as the British longest serving monarch after ruling the United Kingdom for 70 years and 214 days.

Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952 at the age of 25 following the death of her father King George VI.

At the time her father died, she was in Kenya to represent him on the first leg of a royal tour. She was in the company of her husband Philip and they were supposed to head to Australia after the Kenyan trip. King George was too ill to embark on the tour.

They stayed together for decades before Philip passed away in 2021. His body is reportedly reserved at the Royal vault at the St. George’s Chapel in Windsor castle and is set to be buried together with the Queen’s.
