President Ruto Sends Azimio Back To The Drawing Board As Fight For Majority Leader, Chief Whip Intensifies

Date:

President William Ruto has mocked the Azimio team over claims that they have more numbersĀ  in the National Assembly and Senate and therefore they should take up majority leader and chief whip positions.

Speaking in Naivasha during the Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary group meeting, Ruto said Azimio was bringing up an unnecessary contest yet they terribly failed in the Speaker of the senate contest.

“Our competitors on the other side will provide the oversight role. I have heard them say they have numbers I mean surely. If you can not even raise numbers for the speaker of the senate, what numbers do you really have? There is no need to bring a contest where there is none,” he said.

The president further said that none of the Azimio members will land a role in government in a bid to ensure that the opposition is functional.

“We have accepted that we are not going to appoint any member of the opposition in government because we want to have a vibrant opposition. We want an opposition that will keep government in check. We have nothing to hide and we want to run an accountable government. We appreciate their role and wish them well, but we will play our role as effectively as we can,” Ruto said.

His statement comes just moments after the Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua said that Azimio deserves majority leader slots because they have numbers.

“We are the largest party in Parliament, we, therefore, deserve to have the majority leader and whip position, and all things that go with the majority,” she said in Azimio’s parliamentary group meeting that was held in Machakos.
