“Sonko In Suits!” Governor Sakaja Faces Backlash For Making Wrong Move After A Week In Office

Date:

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has faced backlash for meeting with a group of the county’s MCAs at a hotel in Mombasa.

Sakaja is said to have met with MCAs allied to Kenya Kwanza, while those from Azimio skipped the meeting over the pending determination of the presidential petition which they termed as an important matter.

“My people of Nairobi; you chose well. These MCAs are really passionate about making a difference. We shall work together and make Nairobi a city of order, dignity, hope and opportunity for all. Let’s make Nairobi Work. Asanteni sana,” the governor shared on his social media handles accompanied by photos of MCAs who attended the meeting.

The meeting is said to have been held to strategize on the election of the speaker of the county Assembly.

Netizens and Azimio-allied MCAs as well as supporters have however condemned Sakaja for holding the meeting in Mombasa, yet Nairobi could have served the same purpose. Here are some of their reactions.

“It’s quite unfortunate @SakajaJohnsonhis 1st order of business is to start bribing MCA’s with Holiday’s yet@SimbaArati is busy clearing the mess Ongwae left in Kisii…We already know early enough which leaders are truly with the people,” a twitter user said.

“We are all surprised. Yaaani! It’s terrifying to even imagine that we have a new #SonkoInSuits Johnson Sakaja = Mike Sonko In Suits.” Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai said.

“First order of business in Nairobi: Take new MCAs to the sandy beaches of Mombasa to “remove” the stress of campaigns. Changing the Face of Nairobi one beach at a time. Donge?” another tweet read.

“So Johnson kosgei sakaja has started misusing Nairobi city county’s resources? Why would he take MCAs to Mombasa to discuss issues of nairobians? Yeesu!shuka uokoe Kenya, hatuna bahati!” another netizen tweeted.
