President Kenyatta’s Final State Tours Push Him Close To DP Ruto

Date:

It is just a matter of days before president Uhuru Kenyatta’s 10-reign comes to an end. He is however rushing against time to ensure that once he leaves, his legacy remains forever.

In his last few days in office, President Uhuru has traversed several parts of the country including Mt. Kenya, Kisumu among other areas, to commission various projects. He has also made a number of appointments in government.

On Thursday, August 4 morning, president Kenyatta was in Makueni county where he inspected ENI Kenya, the country’s first agri-hub that ‘produces vegetable oil and related bio-products’.

Coincidentally, his Deputy, William Ruto, also spend the better part of Thursday morning in Makaueni county to hunt for votes.

The president is however expected in at the coast this afternoon for his final tour in the region as a sitting head of state.

He is expected to make a stop at Mvita constituency to launch the Sh4.5 billion 457-metre Makupa bridge.

Aside from that, President Uhuru will preside over the opening of the new Kipevu oil terminal in Mombasa port and also launch the Mombasa-Miritini metre-gauge railway line.

He will also visit Lamu and Kilifi to launch various projects during his coastal trip.

Th launch of Makupa bridge however nearly interfered with Kenya Kwanza’s final rally in Mombasa with the police saying there is  no way parallel events  can be conducted in the same area. Tononoka is just a few kilometers from where President Uhuru’s event will be taking place.

Apparently, the team had been denied entry into Tononoka ground and the police had been informed to block the rally from taking place.

“We have been asked by the police to stop putting up the dais and any other arrangement for the meeting until we get more orders. We do not know if the rally has been cancelled or postponed until later in the day,” one of the rally planners told journalists.

The group was eventually allowed to use the stadium for their final rally. By the time of publishing this article, Kenya Kwanza supporters were already in the stadium waiting for the arrival of DP Ruto.
