KBC journalist Irene Muchuma is embroiled in a court battle with Pastor Thomas Nzioki of Victory Jesus of Worship center church in Embakasi.
Through her lawyer Suyianka Lempaa , the journalist sued the pastor and the church based at Tassia complaining of noise Pollution while accusing the church of operating without a license. She is seeking to have the church operations stopped.
“Our right to a peaceful environment has been violated and continues to be violated for which we hold the defendant liable,” Muchuma complained
The journalist, who owns rental houses in the area, claims that she has been unable to retain her tenants because of the deafening noise from the church.
Aside from that, her three months old baby has also been affected such that she/he can barely sleep.
“They are frustrating me because they believe they have money to throw their weight around,” she complained, adding that loud music is played regardless of whether worshippers are in church or not.
The church has been operational since 2014 and the journalist has tried to sort out the issue amicably through the area chief without success.
According to a letter of demand addressed to Nzioki, dated November 1, 2021, the victim claimed that the church played loud music throughout the day and night as well.
“We are instructed to demand that within seven days, you restrain from emitting excessive noise. Take notice that failure to comply with their demand, a case will be filed against you,” part of the letter read.
The hearing of the case has been scheduled for September 22.
