Worried Of Sim Card Fraudsters? Here Is How You Can Easily Stop Fraudsters From Swapping Your Sim Card

Date:

Safaricom PLC is working hard each day to ensure that their customers are safe from fraudsters and criminals targeting the use of their sim cards and mobile number information.

Of late, cases of criminals using sim cards for their crime activities and stealing money from Mpesa accounts and bank accounts at their comfort zones have increased with one one method being used to access a person’s information being sim card swapping.

The mobile service provider has now developed an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data(USSD) code that will help their customers avert any plans of unauthorized sim swapping, a process known as whitelisting.

Safaricom users can be able to whitelist their sim cards, on their own by just dialing *100*100#.

White listing  is a service that ensures a customer’s line/SIM card can only be replaced by visiting a Safaricom Shop or Care desk with his/her ID, or by calling Safaricom customer care.

The service is for Safaricom customers with Safaricom cards and can not be done on behalf of another person. This means that the sim card dialing the *100*100# USSD code will be the one being white listed.

Customers have been asked to initiate the whitelisting process once they receive sim swap requests that they have not authorized.

“When you receive the below notification of an attempted SIM swap on your line that you did not initiate.

Dear customer, we have received your SIM SWAP request. If you are not aware of this, kindly dial *100*100# immediately to stop the swap. Thank you.’ “ Safaricom indicated on their official website.

Currently, customers are only able to white list their sim cards once.

“The SIM Card for a whitelisted line can only be replaced by visiting a Safaricom Shop, Care desk with your ID or by calling Safaricom customer care,” the company noted noted.
