Why A Lonely Elderly Couple Was Forced To Sue Their Only Child For Failing To Give Them A Grandchild

Date:

An elderly couple in India filed a lawsuit against their son and his wife for not giving them a grandchild after 6 years of marriage.

Sadhana and Sanjeev Prasad  from Northern India sued their son who is aged 35 and his wife, 31, earlier this month, demanding either a grandchild within one year or $600,000 to cater for damages they have incurred due to lack of a grandchild.

The couple believe that their son and wife have stayed in marriage long enough and they should have by now made them grandparents especially after investing a lot in him to ensure that he is successful in life.

“They raised him, educated him, made him capable, and made him a pilot — which was expensive. They see people in their neighborhood playing with their grandchildren and feel like they should also have one. They said they didn’t marry (their son and daughter-in-law) off so that they can live alone. So they said that in the next year, either give us a grandchild or give us compensation,” said their legal representative, Arvind Srivastava as quoted by CNN.

In the lawsuit, the Prasads have outlined various expenses they incurred on their son and his wife including gifting them a car and a honeymoon trip after the wedding. They say that they spent  $47,000 to get their son a pilot’s license

“The main issue is that at this age we need a grandchild, but these people (my son and daughter-in-law) have an attitude that they don’t think about us. We got him married in the hope we would have the pleasure of becoming grandparents. It has been six years since their marriage,” he added. “It feels as if despite having everything we have nothing,” 61-year old Sanjeev told reporters a week ago.

The government officer claimed that he had used all his earnings on his son’s education but together with his wife, they were not getting affection from where they desire most.
