4 Directives That President Kenyatta Has Issued To Kenyans After The Death Of Former President Mwai Kibaki

President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed the death of the third president of the Republic of Kenya Emilio Mwai Kibaki on Friday.

Kibaki passed on at the age of 90 years and led Kenya between 2002- 2013 after which president Kenyatta took over.

“As a leading figure in Kenya’s post-independence history, Mwai Kibaki earned the abiding respect and affection of the people of this nation and other nations throughout the world,” president Kenyatta said in his address.

To honor and celebrate the former president, the head of state issued some guidelines that Kenyans will follow during the mourning period until he is laid to rest.

First of all, President Kenyatta has directed that the nation to observe a period of mourning from Friday April 22 until the sunset of the day that Kibaki will be buried.

According to Kenyatta, the former president will be accorded a state funeral with full military honors and protocols that will be rendered and observed.

Thirdly, the flag of the republic of Kenya shall be flown at half mast at statehouse and all Kenyan diplomatic missions, public buildings, public grounds, all military bases, posts and stations, all naval bases of the republic of Kenya and elsewhere in the territory of the republic of Kenya from Friday to the sunset of Kibaki’s burial day.

Finally, the head of state directed  that the president, Deputy-President, the Chief Justice, Cabinet Secretaries, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Speaker of the Senate, Kenya’s Diplomats abroad and whomsoever else is so authorized by law, shall not fly the national flag on their official motorcade from today until sunset oF the day Kibaki is laid to rest.
