Comedian Eric Omondi is still insisting that producers of Young Famous and African stole his Wife Material format.
The series featuring Diamond Platnumz, Zari Hassan among other African celebrities premiered on Netflix last Friday.
In an interview with Mungai Eve, Omondi claimed that the format used in the introduction of the series is similar one to Wife Material 3.
“They stole the format, format is like how you do your interview. If you place wife material and the series side by side the first three, 10-15 seconds they are the same,” the comedian said
Omondi says his problem is that the details are too exact even though such things have been done before.
Eve however suggested that comedian Butita, who wrote the script for Wife Material and is working with Netflix, could have been responsible for the coincidence.
Omondi said it could be true but the truth of the matter will come out sooner or later.
“I said it is either a coincidence or there is someone in our team, I know it is Butita it can not be Jimmy, who is working with Netflix? Butita has worked with Netflix, he has translated for them, I am not accusing him but the truth will come out,” the 40-year old said.
A number of people had however suggested that Omondi should represent Kenya in the Young Famous and African show. Speaking about that he said that they were right.
“I think they are right but the reason why they skipped us is because we have not offered much as an industry. There is so much happening in Nigeria, Tanzania and South Africa in terms of entertainment so I think they must have overlooked us and that is why I was very concerned.
According to him, there is no difference between his Wife Material show and that of Young Famous and African which is currently trending in Kenya yet people bashed him over Wife Material.
“I feel that I have been vindicated. Every time I have done Wife Material, three seasons, Kenyans have been insulting me that I am a clout chaser, families, grown ups, pastors said this is immoral. I have always been trying to explain this is showbiz. I have been trying to explain what I am trying to do, finally I have been vindicated, the number one trending show in Kenya is Young Famous and African,” Omondi said.
