Man Receives Death Penalty For The Chilling Murder Of Woman Who Rejected His Marriage Proposal

Date:

A man in Pakistan has been sentenced to death over the brutal murder of a 27-year old woman who declined his marriage proposal.

Zahir Zakir Jaffer, son of the wealthiest industrialists in Pakistan, is said to have tortured, raped, murdered and finally beheaded Noor Muqaddam, a daughter of a former diplomat, after keeping her hostage for two days in his family house.

The incident occurred on July 20, 2021 in his house at Islamabad, Pakistan. CCTV footage shows that Noor attempted to escape twice. In one occasion, she jumped from the building’s first floor window, but Zahir dragged her back into the house where he tortured her, raped her and finally took her life before cutting off her head.

The convict told the police that her crime was refusing to marry him. He said that he used a knife to kill the victim.

The police got wind of the murder after an anonymous caller informed them of a murder that had occurred in Islamabad and on reaching the scene, theY found the victim was already dead.

“On 20 July last year, a phone rang in a police station in the upscale F-7 neighbourhood in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. The caller, whose identity is a secret, informed the police that a crime had been committed in the area,” read the report by the police.

Noor’s murder caused a lot of protests from women in the country for months who demanded for justice. #JusticeForNoor and #EndFemicide trended on social media.

The victim’s father Shaukat Maqqadam who expressed his joy following the court’s ruling said that, “I have been saying that the case was not just for my daughter but all the women of my country.

The convict can however appeal the court’s ruling.
