A Citizen TV reporter has claimed that his life is in danger over a story that implicated a governor’s bodyguard and a prison warder in a murder.
The Kericho based reporter, Martin Kosgey, was forced to file a report at the Kericho police station on Thursday January 6,2022 under OB No: 32/6/01/2022 after receiving life threatening messages.
The reporter had posted on his Facebook page on January 4,2022 that Kericho governor’s bodyguard had assaulted two youths over theft of beehives leading to the death of one of them.
In a follow-up post, Kosgey said that the body guard was being hunted down by the police over the murder of the youth at Brooke Area, Kericho. According to the post, the suspect is said to have used a hammer to beat the victim to his death.
The story was later aired at Citizen TV whereby more details on the murder were revealed as the deceased’s family sought for justice over the incident that occurred on Monday night.
According to reports the bodyguard and the warder assaulted the victim identified as Leonard Kipyegon, 26, and his friend Emmanuel Kiprotich, 23, over the beehive theft that allegedly occurred over a year ago.
“One of the bodyguards is our neighbour. His two beehives were reportedly stolen over a year ago, but Monday, they pounced on Kipyegon and his friend at Brooke trading center and beat them senselessly,” Kipyegon’s aunt, Stella Chirchir said.
The citizen TV reporter said that the suspects have not yet been arrested and have been declared armed and dangerous.
The police however informed him that they are on their trail with their last location believed to be Bomet where the bodyguard switched off his phone.
Kiprotich, who was beaten alongside the deceased, is currently receiving treatment at the Kericho County Referral hospital where he is nursing broken limbs.
