Man Survives After Stray Elephants Trampled On Him While Trapped Inside His Car

Date:

A motorist is lucky to be alive after surviving an attack by elephants as he was driving along Nakuru-Mahi Mahiu highway.

John Ndung’u was on his way home when he encountered a group of five elephants that approached his car and trampled on it.

He was trapped helplessly inside the vehicle as the elephants smashed its windows and the bonnet.

The incident that occurred Wednesday night caused a huge traffic jam along the road.

The motorist sustained minor injuries and was rushed to the Naivasha sub county hospital by well-wishers.

According to witnesses, the animals went on to destroy property of unknown value in Lakeview and Hellsgate wards.

Locals alerted the Kenya Wildlife services  and wardens were dispatched to trail the elephants in a bid to prevent further harm.

KWS said that the elephants were migrating from Narok to the Aberdares noting that the attack was unusual.

The Jumbos were tracked down on Thursday, December 30 to a tract of land along the highway.

A roadblock was erected so that the wardens could chase away the animals as a helicopter monitored the operations from above.

A similar incident was witnessed in September this year when a group of stray elephants caused a scare at Mariakani, along Nairobi-Mombasa highway.

In August, police officers were forced to shoot an elephant in Voi that had attacked  passengers who had been trapped inside a private vehicle.
