Leaders across the political divide have called out the police following the alleged abduction and torture of Deputy President William Ruto’s Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi.
In his statement, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa expressed his criticism over the response of the police to the situation.
“Itumbi is a resilient and gallant soldier of the Hustler Nation. IG Mutyambai and CS Matiang’i know that as you prepare your PR statements today,” he stated.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen also chipped in saying that it was sad that police officers who are mandated to protect Itumbi, harmed him.
“Glad to see our brother Itumbi alive. Sad to see him in such pain. Hopefully that he will bounce back stronger. Appalled that police officers who should be protecting him harmed him. May his tormentors who are enjoying power never know peace. Politics shouldn’t be done this way,” Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen tweeted.
Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga said that the torture unleashed on Itumbi was heart-rending and had all the hallmarks of political violence.
“The violence and torture unleashed on Itumbi is heart-rending. It has all the hallmarks of political violence. We can take this no more. As DI recuperates it behoves the relevant authorities to get to the bottom of this matter—that is if their hands are clean,” Omanga said.
Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany also chipped in on the Itumbi matter, with the legislator questioning who could be out to harm him.
“Who would want to harm you? Ruaraka land thief Covid KEMSA billionaires? Lamada team? Deep state? The list is long, there is no gain without pain sad that they choose you to bear the pain. We shall overcome, satans power,” Kositany said.
The National Police Service has since stated that it has launched investigations into the matter after the incident was reported to the Thindigua Police Post.
