Kisumu Suicide Bombing Takes New Twist As Fresh Details Emerge Why John Ondiek Killed Elderly Couple

Date:

John Ondiek detonated an explosive device killing two elderly couple in Nyakach, Kisumu. Apparently it was not an act of terrorism but rather just revenge.

Terrorism is defined as the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.

Ondiek was not pursuing political aims when he killed the elderly couple in Kisumu, he was seeking revenge over a debt owed to him.

John Ondiek alias Pope was on the police radar for a while, last year he exploded an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Katito town injuring three people.

After the explosion in Katito, Ondiek fled reportedly to Mombasa and stayed underground for a while before he made his way back to Nyakach.

Locals say Ondiek returned to seek revenge over a debt owed to him, apparently he sold his land to his uncle and he wasn’t paid the full amount.

He came back demanding some of his arrears, close to Ksh30,000. He called his uncle severally and even threatened him over the debt.

“The main issue here has been the land. He sold land here to one of his uncles and the uncle gave him a portion and he was demanding the remaining cash, He has been calling these guys and threatening them over the arrears,” a local told NTV.

Ondiek resorted to using violence when he got tired of asking to be paid money owed to him. He went to his uncle’s home on Wednesday December 7th around 9pm wearing an explosive belt.

The suspected member of Somali Islamist group Al Shabaab detonated the explosive device killing himself, his uncle and aunt.

The couple’s daughter sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kisumu for specialized treatment. She is said to be in serious condition.
