Internal wrangles in William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is threatening to derail the DP’s presidential bid, Kirinyaga county in particular is causing a lot of trouble.
The defection of Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru to UDA has caused a strife within Ruto’s party because of conflicting interests.
Kirinyaga Women Rep Purity Ngirici and Waiguru are fierce rivals as they both seek UDA’s ticket to contest for 2022 gubernatorial race.
Ngirici and Waiguru’s rivalry is threatening to rip apart UDA. Supporters of the Kirinyaga Woman Rep have now threatened to ditch the party over what they term as favoritism.
Ngirici’s supporters claims Ruto is endorsing Waiguru at the expense of the Kirinyaga Women Rep. The DP was accompanied by the Kirinyaga governor during his recent tour of Mt Kenya East.
Speaking in a rally in Kirinyaga on Saturday, Ngirici’s supporters stated that the Kirinyaga Women Rep is prepared to switch political camps in the coming days if Ruto’s current behavior of political dishonesty and betrayal continues.
“We Won’t continue to stay in a place where our hearts are hurt every moment. I’m urging my comrades to give us a break or we give ourselves because we won’t continue this way…. Mtu ambaye hana wizi, na ukora tuko na yeye kama Mt Kenya,” said one of Ngirici’s supporters.
They also called out governor Waiguru for demonstrated highest level of political immaturity by attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta, Internal CS Fred Matiangi and PS Karanja Kibicho.
