Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri Implicated In The Murder Of Environmentalist

Date:

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has been mentioned as a person of interest in the murder of prominent environmentalist Joanna Stutchbury.

Stutchbury, who was passionate about conserving the Kiambu forestland, was shot dead outside her home in Kiambu in July.

In a submission to the Senate’s committee on Security , Environment CS Keriako Tobiko said that the deceased was murdered because of her relentless effort in conserving the environment.

Tobiko wants Ngunjiri to be probed regarding the matter since he is among the beneficiaries of the forestland grabbing.

Ngunjiri, the director of Agropack Limited, was allocated 6.795 hectares (16.7 acres) of the land according to Tobiko.

In an affidavit to the Kiambu court, Tobiko stated that Stutchbury managed to stop Ngunjiri from creating an access route through the forestland to his private land.

“The 2nd respondent (Stutchbury) using the 1st respondent (Kenya Forest Service) as her agents have inhibited, stopped and/or frustrated the applicant’s effort of clearing and upgrading the public access road,” part of the affidavit read.

The detectives are hence pegging on the well-documented confrontation between Stutchbury and Ngunjiri to treat the MP as a person of interest.

Ngunjiri is yet to respond to Tobiko’s allegations.

The environmentalist was murdered by an unknown assailants on July 15 . The autopsy report revealed that the 64-year-old woman was hit in the head three times and six times in the head and upper limbs.
