Interior cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi has revealed the reasons why he must always support Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and not deputy president William Samoei Ruto.
According to Matiangi, he serves as the cabinet secretary for security courtesy of president Uhuru Kenyatta and that there is no way he can differ with him politically.
As a result, the CS made it clear that since the handshake, he has become loyal to the former prime minister Raila Odinga since that is the direction his boss Uhuru Kenyatta has taken.
The interior cabinet secretary spoke in Nyamira where he accompanied the opposition leader in his Azimio La Umoja tour across the country.
“Finally, let me say something about the politics of this place, this is home and if you cannot speak honestly from your heart when you are home and when you are amongst your people, there is nowhere on earth you will speak very sincerely and honestly.
“I want to publicly say this to you. I am grateful and I thank God, and I will thank God for all the days of my life for the opportunity he has given me to serve my country in the position I have served the country through our president.
“And I thank our president for the trust he has bestowed and the assignment he has given me and as I said before, I will do everything the president tells me faithfully with absolute loyalty and focus to serve my country and serve my president.
“Kwa hivyo kwanza, kama ni hi mambo ya siasa, when my president takes a position, i queue behind my president. Let me just say it as it is since we are here at home.
”I also want to say this publicly for the record, mimi tangu handshake, i have sat down with Raila Odinga, we have discussed with mzee all along. Sazile walishikana mkono namna hii, mimi i cannot go where Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are not. Let me tell you the truth, you know what I do for a living. I am the minister in charge of security in this country. I look across the country and the majority of our people are where the president and mzee are.” He continued.
