Raila Odinga Reveals What Will Make Him Back Out Of The 2022 Presidential Elections Race

Date:

Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga is yet to declare his candidature in the 2022 presidential elections.

His decision to vie for the seat will be determined by the number of registered voters especially after the end of the mass voter registration exercise that began on October 4.

“I have said I will make my decision to run for the presidency at the end of the month. But my supporters should arm themselves with voters’ cards. I will declare after I have seen how people have registered,” Odinga said.

The former prime minister was speaking during his tour in Nyando, Kisumu county and Lwanda in Vihiga whereby he complained of the low voter turnout in his stronghold areas.

“For me to be able to face my opponents for the top seat, I need to have a strong army behind me,” he said in Nyando.

Odinga further said that he was ready to face Deputy President William Ruto but low voter registration turnout could make him opt out of the race.

“You must all get your shield and spear for me to be able to have a strong command against our opponents,” Odinga stated.

He called upon his supporters to prepare for the August 9 general elections through acquiring IDs and registering as voters in large numbers.

“I am not happy because young people in this region are very reluctant to register as voters while those from other regions are beating us,” he said.

Odinga was accompanied by ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna. Other leaders present include MPs Godfrey Osotsi (Nominated), Jared Okello (Nyando), Chris Omulele (Luanda), Caleb Amisi (Saboti) and Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga).

On the other side, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is targeting to register over 6 million voters before the end of the mass voter registration exercise on November 2.
