Marsabit Police Officer Asks Kenyans For Help After Attempting Suicide On Several Occassions

Date:

A Marsabit based police officer has taken to social media to ask for help following several attempts to take his own life.

The officer identified as Kiprotich Rop said that he has been suffering from depression but no one has offered him a listening ear to him.

“I have been suffering from depression and I have been trying to kill myself. Nobody wants to hear me, nobody wants to help me. I am really depressed,” the officer pleaded in a video doing rounds in social media.

The officer however said that he does not want to die since he has a pregnant wife who is depending on him.

“My wife is pregnant. I do not want to leave them behind. I am suffering a lot. I have not slept for the last five days. Please help me, I am ready to be helped,” he said.

He added that he is willing to be helped by anyone so as to overcome depression.

“I am requesting everyone who is ready to help me to cope up with depression to come to my rescue. Suicidal thoughts have been coming severally. Even today I have been trying to kill myself. Please help me. I do not want to die,” the officer said amidst tears.

In September, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) launched a programme to monitor and identify officers who need medical attention.

The programme has a special focus on mental health and is being implemented by the commission in conjunction with the Ministry of Health.

A report by mental health experts indicate that about 60 police officers commit suicide yearly over social, financial and professional issues.

In June, a police constable identified as Viviana Williams went viral after sharing a video while highlighting her plight in line of duty.
