Tusker FC are the winners of the Football Kenya Federation Super Cup after beating Gor Mahia 8-7 in post-match penalties.
The 90 minutes match ended with both teams scoring a goal before Tuskers claimed victory in the penalties.
Gor got their first goal on the 54th minute through Samuel Onyango by a penalty. Tusker’s Ibrahim Joshua equalized the goal also through a penalty few minutes later.
In the 72nd minute, Gor’s Harun Shakava was sent off after he exhibited a dangerous tackle on Tusker defender Kevin Monyi.
Tusker’s coach Robert Matano expressed his faith in the current squad. He urged the players to also defeat Egyptian giants Zamalek in the CAF Champions League. The team signed 12 new players to strengthen their squad and released 11 others.
“I decided to give my new players a chance in this game to assess them ahead of our opening league fixture against AFC Leopards. We have a good squad depth and I’m impressed with the way they played. However, there are still some areas we need to perfect on and continue gelling together,” said Matano.
“They are new players and every player is still finding their momentum and rhythm. We shall get better in the league,” he added.
