Mother of the two children who were found dead with their father unconscious on Saturday night has finally weighed in on the matter.
Taking to social media, Winnie Odhiambo, expressed her sadness while blaming herself for failing to protect her children.
“My heart is shattered; I failed to protect you my loves. The person you trusted the most betrayed you my darlings, I promise to fight for justice for you; Go well my sweethearts,” she wrote
Five-year-old Dylan Gakara, and Karuana Gakara, aged three, are believed to have been killed by their father after he injected them with a drug. Dr. James Gakara, a Nakuru based Gynacologist then attempted suicide.
According to the police Gakara, who is now fighting for his life at Nakuru level five hospital under the watch of the police, confessed to have killed his children after regaining conscious.
Reports reveal that Gakara resolved to kill his children before taking his life following an argument that he had had with his wife Winnie. It is alleged that the doctor disagreed with his wife wanted to travel abroad against his will.
On fateful day, a friend to Winnie said that Gakara called his wife while he was having lunch with their children.
His family however deny that he is responsible for the death of his children claiming that there were other people in the house when the incident occurred.
On Monday, his sister Mary Nyaguthii Gakara who addressed the press while at the hospital asked the police to be open minded while carrying out investigations.
“We have some persons of interest who are yet to give an account of what happened. Dr. Gakara was rarely alone with his children as it has been alleged. We hope that those yet to record statements will shed light on the matter,” said Nyaguthii.
The police have however declined to give details on how the investigation is progressing while saying that they were giving the family time to mourn.
