Why Natembeya Wants to Vie For Trans Nzoia’s Top Seat In The Coming Elections

The Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya announced that he will in the race for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in the coming general elections.

Speaking during an interview with TV47 Natembeya expressed his intentions to serve the people of Trans Nzoia in the position after the next general elections.

He said that it was his right to vie for the position that is currently being held by Patrick Khaemba.

“I want to be the governor of Trans Nzoia County in 2022. It is within my right to seek for an elective post.” Natembeya said.

He however did not reveal the political party that he will use to vie for the position.

Currently, Natembeya is tasked with restoring normalcy in Laikipia following the unrest that has rocked the region for about a month.

He said that the government underestimated the threat posed by bandits in the past saying that they were not going to repeat the same mistake.

“In the past we underestimated the threat posed by bandits in Laikipia, this time round we will stay there  for a longer period until security is restored completely. We have a lasting solution this time round,” he said.

Natembeya commended the security operation while saying that normalcy is slowly returning at the Ol-Moran area in the Laikipia Nature Conservancy.

“We have made a tremendous improvement in restoring peace ever since we launched the operation last Monday (September 7),” he said.

Schools resumed operations on Monday September 13 however it was reported that majority of the teacher and students did not report to school.

The banditry attacks saw schools closed, a number of people including three police officers killed and hundreds of people displaced from their homes.

Over the weekend, the government begun rebuilding houses that were destroyed during the clashes.

The project was overseen by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i who also distributed foodstuffs to the displaced families.
