Sharon Otieno’s Mother Reveals Why She Dumped ODM And Chose Ruto’s UDA To Vie For MCA Seat

Date:

Sharon Otieno’s mother Melida Auma has tossed herself into the political arena and has chose Ruto’s UDA over Raila’s ODM to vie for MCA seat in Homa Bay county.

Auma is seeking to be the next MCA for Homa Bay Town West Ward on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, a political party associated with the deputy president William Ruto.

ODM is the most dominant political party in Homa Bay but Auma nonetheless chose UDA because she couldn’t secure the former’s ticket.

Sharon Otieno’s mother said ODM tickets in the region are competitive to get so she chose the easiest option which is UDA.

UDA is hard sell especially in Luo Nyanza as Ruto is the fiercest rival for Raila who enjoys fanatical support in the region.

Sharon Otieno’s mother was counting on ODM to give her a direct ticket. She says ODM leaders had promised to ‘stand by her’ but disappeared after her daughter’s burial in 2018.

Auma gained prominence after the death of her daughter who was having an illicit affair with Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Sharon Otieno’s lifeless body was found dumped in a thicket near Oyugis in Homa Bay in September, 2018 with Obado being the main suspect in her brutal murder.

Sharon, who was a second year medical records and information student at Rongo University, was found murdered after being abducted by unknown people.

Investigators linked the Migori governor to her murder. Sharon was carrying Obado’s baby at the time of her murder – DNA established the paternity.

Sharon’s murder case has been ongoing with the DPP saying they have more than 30 witnesses to testify in court over. The murder trial is set to resume on October 4th.

Sharon Otieno’s mother has been struggling to raise three children left behind by her daughter. Auma sells secondhand clothes in Homa Bay town.

Auma said she will contest Homa Bay West MCA in 2022 to increase her family’s financial capacity.

“I will use the UDA party ticket to run for the MCA seat,” she told the press.
