One Dead, Several Injured After Water Trench Collapses In Kirinyaga

One person has been confirmed dead after being buried alive while digging a water trench project in Kianderi area, Kirinyaga County.

According to witnesses a total of 8 people were working on the project when the tragedy occurred in one of the sewer caves.

So far 4 people have been rescued from the sewer cave as efforts to rescue those still buried continue.

Kirinyaga Central Deputy Commissioner Daniel Ndege, who confirmed the incident has said that Kirinyaga County rescue team and area residents have combined efforts in the rescue operation.

Those rescued from the scene have been rushed to Kerugoya Level 4 hospital by county emergency medical team.

Elsewhere police in Gem, Siaya County have launched an investigation following the death of a 37-year old primary school teacher.

The body of the teacher identified as Joseph Olouch Owino was discovered in a bush by neighbors, where he is believed to have been murdered.

It is alleged that the teacher went on a drinking spree with his friends on Sunday evening but never returned to his home.

Ramula sub-location Assistant Chief Samuel Hezron Nyawalo said that he was informed by the village elder about the body of the deceased, who was a teacher at Kanyoto Primary School.

According to the administrator, the deceased was thoroughly beaten as indicated by bruises all over his body.

Nyawalo further confirmed said that one suspect identified as Elisha Odhiambo has been arrested regarding the death of the teacher and will help with investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Yala sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
