Museveni Walks On Foot To His First Campaign Address

Date:

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the talk of town on Monday evening after he walked on foot to his first campaign address.

The Ugandan President was accompanied by his wife Janet Kataaha Museveni to the venue of the media address. Museveni said that the address was in respect to the Covid-19 containment measures aimed at curbing the Coronavirus pandemic.

Yoweri’s move comes after he hinted that he would postpone the elections if the Covid-19 persisted. While speaking to the NBS Uganda, Museveni said: ” To have the elections when the virus is still there…It will be madness for people to gather.”

Confirming Museveni’s sentiments, Ugandan Electoral Commission spokesperson Mr. Jotham Taremwa confirmed that the virus would likely pose a threat to the next election. However, he said that it was too early to make such a conclusion.

Asked by NBS whether he was trying to make political capital from the Coronavirus pandemic, the 75 year old responded: “Who could wish for this so that I speak and become popular? Rubbish, idiots.”
