Nation Journalist Detained In Tana River Over MRC Story

Date:

Nation Media Journalist Mr. Stephen Oduor was on Tuesday evening held by security agencies over a story on the Mombasa Republican Council.

According to the security agencies, the story had caused jitters in the coastal region. Tana River County Criminal Investigation Officer Mr. Peter Kiteti summoned him on Monday to answer why he wrote the story.

The story was published by Nation on the 27th of October 2020 where Mr. Oduor quoted the Deputy County Commander Mr. Peter Munyoki. The respondent reported that MRC was believed to be hiring members in the area of Makindu, Galole Sub-County.

The security agencies wanted the journalist to give an account of where he got the information and where the outlawed gang were regrouping. In his defense, Mr. Oduor said that he did not come up with the story but only reported what was said by Mr. Peter Munyoki.

After the summoning, the police ordered Mr. Stephen Oduor to withdraw the story.
