The former Prime Minister Raila Odinga speaking in Kisii earlier on today celebrating Mashujaa Day proved he is well educated in Kenyan history, more so Kisii history.
Raila Odinga speaking at Gusii Stadium urged the Kisii Governor, Hon. James Ongwae to honor the late legislator, George Morara in his County the way other counties have done.
“George Morara has been honored in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu counties where he has a street named after him,” Raila Odinga said, “but he hasn’t been honored in his home county, Kisii here.”
Raila Odinga called upon the Kisii governor to make an effort to at least honor the late legislator who made a difference in the country’s history.
Raila Odinga who accompanied the President together with the Deputy President to celebrate Mashujaa Day also reassured Kenyans that the reggae has not been stopped and that BBI is still on.

Although George Morara served as MP for barely nine months, parliamentary colleagues and residents of the present-day Kisii and Nyamira counties are convinced he left behind an indelible mark.
That he is a revered political hero to many, observes former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara, is demonstrated by the fact that hundreds of children in Nyamira, Kisii, and neighboring counties have been named after him.
“Members of the Kisii community traditionally name their children after the dead. However they are named only after the very popular amongst us, and those who have touched other peoples’ lives,” says the politician.
Although he was only in lower primary school when Morara joined Parliament, Magara vividly recalls that Morara’s image was that of a “fearless and firm leader with a promising future”.
Governor James Ongwae hasn’t responded to Raila Odinga’s suggestion just yet.
