United secured maximum points at Brighton as the hosts hit the woodwork five times and conceded a penalty after the final whistle.
There was a period last season when Solskjaer came under fire because his side were struggling to find a victory.

Owner Joel Glazer will be content if Solskjaer can get the club back into the top four this campaign, according to transfer expert Duncan Castles.
The Red Devils have been in contact with ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino but he would be a much more expensive appointment than the current one.
“It is no secret that no Manchester United manager would survive a sequence of results like that if it is to carry on or a sequence of performances,” Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast.
“They weren’t unlucky in any of these games. Their luck was to get that penalty at Brighton.
Recent reports suggest United have reached out to Pochettino’s camp in case their results do not improve.
