Temporary relief for Sirisia MP John Walukhe and his co-accused Grace Wakhungu as a Nairobi court grants them Ksh 10M and Ksh20m cash bail respectively.
The bail was granted to the two pending the determination of an appeal filed at the High Court.
The court ruled that there were no adequate grounds to deny the Waluke and Grace bai, arguing that they had met the threshold.
Justice John Oyirngo who presided over the case ordered the two to hand over their travel documents to the court.
Apart from hindering them from leaving the country, the two will also be required to report to the deputy registrar every month.
During the hearing, the court dismissed Walukhe’s concerns that he would lose his parliamentary seat if he remains in custody.
The court argued that there is no provision in the constitution that allows for special treatment to leaders who appear in court as suspects.
Walukhe and Grace were convicted of receiving Ksh.313 million in fictitious claims for the storage of non-existent maize.

Walukhe was therefore sentenced to a combined 67 years in jail, or pay up to Ksh1.04 billion in fines.
While Grace Wkhungu is required to pay Ksh1.04 billion in fines or serve 69 years in prison.
The MP has since appealed the ruling saying among other claims, the conviction was based on a defective charge sheet.
Walukhe claimed that critical witnesses were never called to testify in his case that heard for a period of two years.
He further claimed that the anti-corruption court did not test impartiality and independence claiming that politics played part in the conviction and sentencing.
