Deputy President William Ruto has started laying ground to launch his 2022 presidential campaigns.
Ruto has been meeting his grassroots network at his official residences in Sugoi and Nairobi ever since the Ministry of Health imposed the Covid-19 guideline but of late he began his nationwide tour last weekend.
William who is keen to clinch the country’s top seat come 2022, was in Mombasa county on Saturday and held several meetings with the region’s political and religious leaders.
During his visit to the coast, Ruto was accompanied by MPs Benjamin Tayari (Kinango), Wangui Ngirici (Woman Rep, Kirinyaga) Glady Sholei (Woman Rep, Uasin Gichu) Kimani Ichungw’a (Kikuyu), Lydia Haika (Woman Rep, Taita Taveta), Mohamed Ali (Nyali) and Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga)
He then went back to Nairobi where he attended a church service in Nairobi’s pipeline area and later addressed a roadside gathering that blocked his motorcade.
“I want to tell you that in the days to come, we will not accept to be taken back to tribal politics, hatred. We should unite as one people. The most important thing is that it is not what the leaders want but what wananchi wants,” Ruto told the gathering.
“Kenyans want money in their pockets, they want job opportunities, they want their children to go to school, their livelihoods to the proposer. You will go for what Kenyans want or that which some leaders want? Are you ready for what you want? If you are ready, I am also ready too,” he added, giving the clearest indication yet that he is ready to start campaigning.
Speaking about the early campaigns, Ruto’s close confident and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi on Friday told the star: “the 2022 journey is here with us and unstoppable. All elected leaders are up and about in their constituencies. Time is no longer with us, this is just but warms up. If they will bring the so-called referendum, that will be the proper beginning for 2022 campaigns.”
Sudi further stated that if the country will not have a referendum, then the campaigns will kick start in January 2021.
Speaking on the campaigns by other political leaders Sudi noted that the morals of MPs were affected by the “vindictive” Jubilee changes, which were planned by President Uhuru in Parliament.

“MPs are trooping to their constituencies and counties. You will soon see Parliament having quorum challenges. MPs will only attend sittings when there are crucial bills such as those on the election and the budget,” Sudi told the Star at an interview.
Sudi further stated that if the country will not have a referendum, then the campaigns will kick start in January 2021. – the three main podiums politicians have normally used to sell their agenda.
