Samburu Senator Steve Lelegwe only married his second wife last year, and now he is set to marry wife number three – a woman who has not even divorced her husband.
Lelegwe tied the knot with his second wife Irene Sais Nakae in a flashy ceremony in Kajiado County on November 21, 2020.
The first time senator broke up with his first wife Beatrice Maseina Lelegwe in 2019 after he eloped with his side chick Irene Sais Nakae whom he married as a second wife.
The Samburu senator is already in a court battle with his first wife who accused him of unfaithfulness and neglecting his children.
She obtained a court order to stay with their three children before the Senator married his second wife Nakae.
In her affidavit, Maseina said that her marriage hit rock bottom after the Samburu senator took his mpango wa kando, now his second wife Nakae, to their matrimonial home in Nairobi.
“He is always on his phone flirting with other women. He does not have any respect for me or the children. I know that he met the lady on a dating site and afterwards decided to chase me and the kids away,” said Maseina.
After their fallout, Maseina moved out to Kabete where she claims she has been living in squalid conditions with their three children.
“He is treating me and the kids like doormats. I have no job and I am struggling to raise the kids on my own. I am pleading for help from my friends to help raise legal fees for my lawyers.”
After their separation, the Samburu senator moved to court seeking custody of the children so that he could transfer them back to their previous prestigious schools since they were missing a life befitting his status.
Although Lelegwe’s plea was granted, the court later overturned it’s orders to return the children to their previous school and granted their mother custody but with visitation rights for their father.
The Samburu senator, who believes there is nothing wrong with marrying several women, is said to be planning to marry his third wife.
The woman Lelegwe wants to marry as his third wife is called Silvana Lengees, she is currently working as a banker in Nairobi.
Plans are already in the pipeline for the Samburu senator to meet Silvana Lengees’ family and other senior clan elders in Laikipia for dowry negotiation. This means he is already planning for his third wedding in less than 5 years.
However, Silvana has not officially divorced her ex-husband Ben, the son of former National Assembly Speaker Francis Ole Kaparo.
Senator Lelegwe is said to be more of a play boy than a traditional polygamous Samburu man as he has sired other children outside wedlock.
