A 2NK matatu Sacco driver who was fired for reporting drunk high school students has landed a new job.
John Maina Muthoni will now be joining the Transport department in the County government of Nyeri.
The announcement was made by Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga through his social media accounts while praising the driver for his heroic act.
“I wish to celebrate John Maina Muthoni, formerly of 2NK, a heroic driver who courageously reported students upon realizing that they were smoking bhang and drinking alcohol.
Drugs abuse is a crime that breaks the hearts of many parents and ruins the lives of many young men and women and we condemn it at the highest level,” the governor said
Adding that, “My government will offer him a position as a driver in one of our departments.”
Muthoni lost his job after he attempted to report the intoxicated students of Fred Grammer’s mixed secondary school at Sagana police station.
The students, who were on their way to Nairobi for the midterm break, smoked bhang and drank alcohol. Efforts by Muthoni to contain them proved futile leaving him with no choice other than to take them to the police station.
The students however escaped through the matatu’s window as Muthoni drove towards the police station.
The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti had earlier on asked the driver to contact him on learning that he had lost his job.
