Matatu Driver Who Reported Intoxicated Students Gets Fired

Date:

The matatu driver who tried to report 14 students at a police station for drug abuse is said to have been fired.

John Muthoni Maina, who worked for the 2NK Matatu Sacco, resolved to drive the students of Fred Grammer’s mixed secondary school to Sagana police station after efforts to contain them proved futile.

Maina tried asked the student to stop drinking and smoking bhang but they rudely told him to focus on driving them to Nairobi or else he would face dire consequences.

The driver was ferrying the students, who were heading home for midterm break, from Nyeri to Nairobi.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Maina revealed that he had been fired because of his bravely act through his Facebook account.

DCI boss George Kinoti has now directed Maina to contact him following the misfortune that had befallen him.

“The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, has noted with grave concern the unfolding development and would like to meet the dismissed driver soonest possible,” DCI said.

“In this regard, Muthoni is requested to contact the Director urgently through DCI’s toll free hotline 0800 722 203 or present himself at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, on November 29th,” DCI added.

According to DCI, the driver’s employer should have commended him for being brave and risking his life to report a serious crime of immorality that involved high school students, instead of being shown the door.

“Drugs abuse is a crime that breaks the hearts of many parents and ruins the lives of many young men and women. Sadly, some adults on this page seemed to support the actions of the students which should be condemned in the strongest terms possible,” DCI stated.

The 14 students who evaded arrest by jumping through the matatu’s window have since been tracked down and will face the law once investigations are concluded.
