Tanzanian Opposition leaderĀ Tundu Lissu has been arrested this evening in Dar es Salaam. According to the Tanzanian authorities, the arrest came following intelligence that there was a planned demonstration.
The arrest was confirmed by his Chadema party via their twitter handle without stating stating much.
Mr. Tundu Lissu had complained in the wee hours of Monday morning that there were plans to have him arrested. The police had frustrated their plannedĀ protest following the election that happened last week.
The election saw the incumbent President Pombe Magufuli win with a landslide victory. However, the opposition side rejected the results citing massive irregularities.
