Deputy President William Ruto’s office has been forced to address the unlikely situation which happened leading to an attempted attack on him.
A man attempted to attack DP Ruto as he was leaving an event at Rurii Stadium, in Mathioya.
The man who walked towards DP Ruto as he was heading to his vehicle confronted him and lifted his hand in apparent attempt to attack but was stopped by the DP’s security and pinned to the ground.
The DP took a step back as the man approached him menacingly. The threat neutralised, Ruto smiled with a gesture as tom indicated okay.
After that Ruto proceeded to hold other meetings in Othaya Town.
Commenting on the incident, Office of the Deputy President Communications Secretary David Mugonyi denied there was an attempt to attack Dr Ruto.
He told a local daily that the Deputy President had earlier on been presented with chicken by an elderly woman and the man was following suit with a gift of tea leaves but was stopped by the bodyguards who did not know what he was up to and was later released.
While on the same tour Ruto hesitated his stand on BBI.
DP Ruto said he wouldn’t have a problem with the report if it factors in what he termed as “issues touching lives of the poor” and farmers.
The Deputy President put a strong case for the poor, saying their resolve for inclusion of agricultural reforms will not be defeated.
“We have no problem with BBI. But because we have put issues of positions, we must put those touching on prices of agricultural commodities such as tea, coffee, milk and so on,” Ruto said.

The DP urged the pro-BBI team to heed to President Kenyatta’s bid for consensus on the proposed amendments.
“If we put issues of mwananchi in BBI, we have no problem. But if we say it is a must, will you support it?” he asked the charged crowd, which responded in a frenzied no.
“If the issues of mwananchi are not in the report, reggae will stop. Issues of tea, coffee, milk must be incorporated in the report,” Ruto added.
