Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate in the upcoming by-elections in Msambweni Constituency, Omar Boga, has taken a short break in his campaigns after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Boga has since been discharged from the Mombasa Hospital, where he was admitted for three days and is recuperating at his home.
He stated that he spent at least Sh200,000 on his treatment, and he was recuperating well but could not interact with other people at the moment for fear of infecting them with the dreaded virus.
He stated that at first, he thought it was a normal fever and only took painkillers, but when it persisted, his family members advised him to go for a test.
Boga noted that admission to hospitals was almost impossible as most were full to capacity with COVID-19 patients.
He further stated that his bodyguard also tested positive for the virus and was on a home-based care program.
The politician is the Msambweni ODM candidate for by-elections set to be held on December 15, 2020.
Eleven candidates are so far expected to contest for the parliamentary seat, with four as independent candidates and seven from various political parties.
Boga’s main challenger is an independent candidate, Faisal Abdallah Bader, who is supported by Deputy President William Ruto and his allies.
The seat was left vacant in March after the immediate former MP Suleiman Dori passed on while undergoing treatment in Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa County.

This comes a few days after President Uhuru Kenyatta suspended all political rallies and gatherings for 60 days in efforts to combat the spread of coronavirus, which has surged in the last one month.
The Head of State directed that anyone wishing to hold such rallies to do so in town halls and must observe all COVID-19 guidelines, including limiting the audience to a one-third sitting capacity of the hall.
