A Scuba diving YouTuber has narrated how he was able to find a car belonging to teenagers who were reported missing in 2000.
The car that Jeremy Beau Sides discovered in a river matched the one that Erin Foster, 18, and Jeremy Bechtel, 17,were driving before their disappearance in April 2000.
Sides’ YouTube channel is called Exploring with the Nug. He has made it his mission to find missing persons.
Speaking to CNN, Sides said that he came across the teenager’s case as he looked through the missing persons database.
“When I saw two teens went missing and vanished in a car, that really stood out to me. When I looked at the town where they were last seen, I saw that a big river ran through it. That just told me to go,” Sides said.
Sides, a one man army who does everything on his own including filming and editing of his videos, left for Sparta, the county seat of White County, Tennessee to work on the case.
At first, his search mission was unsuccessful. His search video however was brought to the attention of White County Sheriff Steve Page in late November by a member of Foster’s family.
Page reached out to Sides and suggested that he should look at a different location along the Calfkiller River and that’s where Sides made the discovery.
“Whoa, oh OK, that’s 100% a car in front of my face, I’ve been looking all day, and I finally found a car,” Sides said in a video he recorded while on the second search.
He called the police who arrived at the scene and confirmed that the car matched the one that the teenagers were in.
Human remains were found inside the car but have been linked to a 1998 missing persons case.
The Youtuber described the experience as exciting but sad at the same time and hoped that the discovery would bring some peace to the families of the teenagers.
“It is sad because that means two teenagers have passed away. Ultimately, I just want to help,” he said.
