EACC boss Twalib Mbarak has come out to give Kenyan voters a dressing down, warning them to be cautious of those leaving lucrative jobs to try their luck in politics.
Mbarak who was speaking to journalists said that many public servants such as journalists are leaving their lucrative positions for no other reasons but to steal public resources.
He however said that those leaving their jobs still get trounced by those who seem to be unqualified for leadership positions.
“You with you own academic papers as a journalist, a degree holder, you want to contest for an MCA position in your home area, you will be defeated by a tout, he becomes one of the people accountable to county resources. Then you expect that guy to perform.
“Ask yourself why are people leaving good jobs, they want to become governors, MCAS…Many of them is not to serve the people, it is what we call tumbo politics,” Mbarak said.
At the same time, he blamed Kenyans for the increased cases of corruption in the country through making wrong leadership choices. He added that Kenyans are aware of leaders who have been linked to corruption but they still elect them and later on complain while pointing fingers at EACC.
“Then why do we have such characters that members of the public know that they have been red flagged and keep on electing them and they expect good leadership and when those guys start stealing across the country, every county is in a mess save for a few and then you say EACC is not working.
“You are the first person to be blamed. You voted a crook what did you expect? Waswahili wanasema ukipanda mwiba utavuna miiba. You cannot plant thorns and harvest carrots or onions,” Mbarak noted.
The CEO further said EACC, along other government bodies such IEBC are innocent in such occurrences and should not be blamed for the public’s mistake.
“When we red flag it will be in public domain that EACC has red flagged the following. Why can’t the public say this people have been red flagged by EACC let’s not vote for them. The judiciary is innocent, EACC is innocent, IEBC is innocent. The major problem is the public. We have reached at a state now we glorify crooks,” he said.
