“You Shall Pay” Tempers High As Judiciary Reacts To Sponsored Attacks Against Supreme Court

Date:

The judiciary has faced a backlash after releasing a statement warning Kenyans about the ongoing social media attacks on the Supreme Court following the recent judgment on the presidential petition.

In the statement dated September 12, the judiciary said that the attacks targeting the country’s top court have been sponsored while sending a stern warning to those responsible.

“The persons sponsoring and executing the attacks on social media to disparage the Court are advised to desist forthwith,” the statement read.

The Judiciary further dispelled claims that the judgment was written by an individual judge. At the same time, it set the record straight over the rumored resignation of a number of judges. Earlier reports indicated that the Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and Justice Smokin Wanjala had submitted their resignation letters for reasons yet to be established..

“Further, there has been an unfortunate trend of isolating individual judges and attributing the judgment to them. The Court has seven judges who are independent and highly respectful of each other as equals. A ‘UNANIMOUS’ judgment is a collective decision made by the Court and not by an individual,” the Judiciary stated

“Meanwhile, no Judge of the Supreme Court has written a resignation letter, as claimed in a section of the media, because there is no reason to do so. The Court is working in harmony as a cohesive unit,” The Judiciary added.

Kenyans have however clapped back at the Judiciary  while accusing the Supreme Court judges of using inappropriate terms as they delivered their judgment

“Don’t dare us. Kenyans constitution publicly being misused with greedy judges using uncalled for terms in court. You’ll not convince me with this article the verdict could have shown a CJ who has no bitterness and constitutionally performing her duty. The insults weren’t judicial,” a netizen responded to the statement.

“You people caused us great pain through your abuse and insults but one day one time you shall pay. Earth shall judge you mercilessly.”

“The idea that the attacks are being sponsored is merely Hot air, Wild goose chase, Fool’s errand, Lost cause, Vain attempt, Worthless pursuit, Nonsense” another said while referring to the terms that were captured in the judgment.
