Traffic Police Officers across the country have been directed to arrest and charge motor vehicles and motorcycle owners whose vehicles are fitted with lights that are contrary to the Traffic Act(Cap 405) section 55.
The Act provides light requirements for vehicles such as Private cars, PSVs, trailers, trucks, and motorcycles among others.
In a statement by the Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso, the National Police Service highlighted some of the lights that are deemed illegal. They include; unlawful equipped lamps, modified illuminating lights, Red light, Opaque rear light, Flashing and flickering lights, LED illuminating lights, Unauthorized Sirens, and unauthorized red and blue lights.
“The above are contrary to the requirements of the law thus endangering the lives of road users. Through this, all vehicle owners are advised to adhere to the requirements of the law to avoid any inconveniences,” NPS said.
NPS further directed PSVs, tour, and commercial vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles have valid licenses such as; Road service licenses, Tour service license, motor vehicle inspection sticker and PSV badges for the driver and conductor.
