COTU boss Francis Atwoli has called upon TSC’s CEO Nancy Macharia to have a discussion with teachers to avoid the stalemate that is likely to hit the education sector due to teachers’ strike.
In a press briefing, Atwoli urged Macharia to stop being tough headed for the sake of learners who are affected by the ongoing industrial action.
“Nancy Macharia must meet with teachers and sign a return-to-work formula. We will be happy as Cotu to see our children going back to school,” he said
Atwoli supported the teacher’s strike saying that they were only exercising their constitutional rights.
“Teachers have the rights to raise their demands, which have been honoured by the National Treasury,” he said. “They (TSC) can do their bullying and we can choose our ways to bolt them out. You do bullying and we bolt you out.”
This comes after the Employment of Labor Relations Court halted the ongoing teachers’ strike, pending hearing and determination of a case that was filed by TSC on Tuesday.
Despite the court’s order, KUPPET secretary General Akello Misori has however insisted that their strike is still on.
“We urge our members to ignore any distractions and continue picketing until the union shall have signed a return-to-work that addresses our grievances,” he said.
Meanwhile, Education CS Dr. Julius Migos has announced a pay increment for teachers for their July and August salaries, following the disbursement of sh13.5 billion by the Treasury for the implementation of 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
